Voting on election day

If you have the right to vote, a voting rights notice will be sent to you before the elections. Voting rights notices will be sent by post or electronically via Suomi.fi service. For more information about the service, please see suomi.fi/messages.
Election day is Sunday 13th of April 2025. The polling stations are open between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. You may only vote at the polling station stated in the voting rights notice sent to you before the elections.
You must have an identity card issued by the police; a passport, a driving licence or another official photo ID with you when you go to the polling station.
How to vote on election day
- Show your ID to the election official. The official will check your name on the voter list. You will get one purple ballot and one white ballot. Use the purple ballot to vote in the county elections. Use the white ballot to vote in the municipal elections.
- Take the ballots and go to a voting booth. There will be a pen in the booth and two lists of candidates. You can check the number of your candidates on these lists. The list for county elections is purple. The list for municipal elections is white.
- Use the pen to write the number of the candidate you want to vote for in the county elections on the purple ballot. Write the number of the candidate you want to vote for in the municipal elections on the white ballot. Do not write anything else on the ballot.
- After you write the numbers on the ballots, fold the ballots in half. Make sure the number is inside the fold and cannot be seen on the outside.
- Take the folded ballots and go to the election official with the ballot box. The official will stamp both of your ballots.
- Drop the stamped ballots into the ballot box. The polling station may have one or two ballot boxes. You can then leave the polling station.
