General upper secondary school
The Finnish general upper secondary school, lukio in Finnish, gives students a good ability to pursue studies at universities of applied sciences and universities.
General upper secondary school education usually takes three and no more than four years to complete. On reasonable grounds, a student may be given an extension to complete his or her studies.
At the end of general upper secondary education, students usually take the Finnish matriculation examination, which they need in order to apply to universities. Students can use their general upper secondary school certificate to apply to universities of applied sciences and for the secondary school graduate intake quota in vocational upper secondary education.
