Summer Activities for Elderly People
OpinIkä Afternoons: These afternoon gatherings are intended for immigrants aged 60 and over. They offer enjoyable group activities, opportunities to meet new people, and new experiences. Participants can try activities such as traditional Finnish games and fishing. Read more: OpinIkä
Coffee in the Park for Seniors: Coffee in the Park invites older people to meet and socialize at Sibelius Park (Birger Jarlin katu 15). Coffee, pastries, and a variety of enjoyable activities are provided, including conversation, light exercise, and group singing. The events take place on Fridays from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, between June 12 and August 14, 2026 (excluding Midsummer Eve, June 19). In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled.

Summer Activities for Families with Children
Let’s Play Pikku Kakkonen: This family-friendly event features various organizations offering free activities for children. You are welcome to bring your own snacks and a picnic blanket and enjoy a picnic with the whole family. At 5:00 PM, there will be a Let’s Play Pikku Kakkonen concert, where children can meet familiar characters from Pikku Kakkonen through songs and interactive play. The event takes place on Thursday, July 2, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kantola Event Park.
Hippalot: Children’s Art Festival Hippalot at Verkatehdas from July 30 to August 2, 2026! This year’s theme for Hippalot is different emotions, and there will be a variety of programs for children aged 0-12.

Free Park Lunch for Families with Children
A free soup lunch is offered to families with children living in Hämeenlinna on weekdays from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, while supplies last. The meal is gluten-free, lactose-free, and pork-free. In summer 2026, the park lunch program will be available at three locations: Jukola, Lammi and Kauriala. Read more: Free soup lunch for families with children
Rowing boats for free use

Fishing
Reel fishing in Finland is subject to a charge so you need a fishing permit. Otherwise, you may get a fine. You can buy fishing licenses on ostaluvat.fi. If necessary, the city’s service point Kastelli will advise you on purchasing fishing permits. For angling (fishing with no reel) you do not need a permit.

Grilling
There are several campfire sites in the Hämeenlinna area where setting a campfire is permitted. Firewood is provided by the City of Hämeenlinna. Most of the campfire sites are open, and there are also some sheltered campfire huts.

Swimming
Outdoor swimming pool: there is an outdoor swimming pool at Ahvenisto in Hämeenlinna. The outdoor swimming pool is opened in June and remains open throughout the summer until September.
Beaches: there are several public beaches in Hämeenlinna. You can swim at the beaches free of charge. The official swimming season is from June 15 until August 31. During that period, the authorities supervise the quality of water on the beaches.

Outdoor Activities and Outdoor Sports Facilities
Come and refresh yourself and spend time in scenic landscapes. The favorite spots of Hämeenlinna residents are Ahvenisto, Aulanko, the National Urban Park and Evo.
