Experience a vibrant summer in Hämeenlinna with exciting events and activities! We’ve compiled a selection of ideas to help you make the most of your summer. Whether for you, your family, or friends, there’s something for everyone. Explore the offerings in Hämeenlinna city, and consider venturing to nearby areas like Hauho, Kalvola, Lammi, Renko and Tuulos for additional experiences.

Opening hours of Hämeenlinna City Services

International Service Centre, Digital support and International Family Guidance Service and also International Business Advisory are open all summer.

Summer’s city transportation (bus) schedules are in effect during the school summer holidays from June 2 to August 5, 2025. Lines 10 and 11 will not operate during the summer season.

Summer Activities for Families with Children

ARX Summer 2025 (scroll down for English) – ARX will distribute 1000 Summer Buckets to children at the beginning of summer. The bucket contains materials and tips for art activities and summer games.

Buckets will be distributed at ARX’s Children’s Garden from June 3 to June 5, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The schedule for other locations will be announced later on ARX’s website. If you can’t pick up a bucket from ARX, you can use the supply list to create your own summer bucket and find tips for using it on this page.

Children’s Art Festival Hippalot at Verkatehdas from July 31 to August 3, 2025! This year’s theme for Hippalot is animals, and there will be a variety of programs for children aged 0-12.

Rowing boats for free use

Enjoy the city’s free-to-use rowing boats, available in orange and white with the city’s name. Find their locations here: Rowing boats for free use

Fishing

Reel fishing in Finland is subject to a charge so you need a fishing permit. Otherwise, you may get a fine. You can buy fishing licenses on ostaluvat.fi. If necessary, the city’s service point Kastelli will advise you on purchasing fishing permits. For angling (fishing with no reel) you do not need a permit.

Grilling

There are several campfire sites in the Hämeenlinna area where setting a campfire is permitted. Firewood is provided by the City of Hämeenlinna. Most of the campfire sites are open, and there are also some sheltered campfire huts. Please note, that it is always good to check whether there is fire warning issued for your area from Finnish Meteorological Institute website

Swimming

Outdoor swimming pool: there is an outdoor swimming pool at Ahvenisto in Hämeenlinna.  The outdoor swimming pool is opened in June and remains open throughout the summer until September.

Beaches: there are several public beaches in Hämeenlinna. You can swim at the beaches free of charge. The official swimming season is from June 15 until August 31. During that period, the authorities supervise the quality of water on the beaches.

Cycling

There are several nice cycling routes in Hämeenlinna. You can ride a bike on a specially marked bike lane. If there is no bike lane or there is only a sidewalk, you can cycle on the road. Children under 12 years old are allowed to cycle on the sidewalk.

Outdoor Activities and Outdoor Sports Facilities

Come and refresh yourself and spend time in scenic landscapes. The favorite spots of Hämeenlinna residents are Ahvenisto, Aulanko, the National Urban Park and Evo.

The nature trails in Hämeenlinna are excellent for outdoor activities and hiking. As you walk along the trails, you will also get to know the local nature, forests, and animals. Most of the nature trails have a campfire spot for enjoying your snacks.
