Hämeenlinna celebrates Pride Week with art, events and rainbow colours

The City of Hämeenlinna celebrates diversity and equality during Pride Week from 23 to 29 June 2025.

Rainbow flags will fly at the City Hall all week to show support for the LGBTQ+ community. This shows that Hämeenlinna is a city for everyone. Many Finnish cities raise rainbow flags to support equal rights and human rights. Pride movement reminds us that everyone should have the same rights, no matter who they are.

During Pride Week, rainbow flags will also fly at:

  • Hämeenlinna Art Museum

  • Häme University of Applied Sciences

  • Häme Castle

  • The Prison Museum

Events during Pride Week in Hämeenlinna

Hämeenlinna Art Museum: Jukka Korkeila – “Darkness is Full of Light” exhibition (5 June – 19 October 2025)
This art exhibition shows works by Jukka Korkeila. His art talks about sexual diversity, spirituality and hope. He openly shows experiences related to homosexuality and LGBTQ+ identity. The exhibition is part of the cultural program for Pride Week.

Thursday 26 June, 3 PM–6 PM: Treasure Hunt for Adults at the Art Museum
A fun treasure hunt will take place inside the museum, in Korkeila’s exhibition. You can come alone or with a group. The goal is to find small details in the artworks. People who find the right answers can win a One Year Museum Card. Entry tickets are 50% off during this event (normal adult ticket is 12€).

You can also do the treasure hunt by yourself anytime from 23 to 29 June during museum opening hours.

9 June – 6 July: Rainbow Colours Workshop at Skogster Museum
You can make colourful jewelry using rainbow colours to celebrate Pride Month. The workshop is open during the museum’s opening hours. It is free and open to everyone.

Create Your Own Pride Pin at Ohjaamo Stage (Youth Guidance Centre)
At Ohjaamo, young adults can make their own pin or small artwork that shows who they are or supports diversity. Staff will help and give materials. You can also join a social media project: write or draw what Pride means to you and put it in a special jar. These anonymous messages will be shared on Ohjaamo’s social media.

Make Weather-Proof Rainbow Decorations (At Home)
Cultural Centre ARX offers online instructions to make rainbow decorations from recycled materials. You can hang them outside or bring them to the Pride march. Instructions on ARX’s website

Rainbow-themed Books at the Library
Hämeenlinna libraries offer LGBTQ+ themed books during Pride Month. Staff will give reading tips online and on social media. There will also be rainbow-themed book displays and posts about safe space principles.

Let’s Meet at the Market Square! – Youth Event on 25 June, 12 PM–5 PM
The Youth Services will host an open event at Hämeenlinna Market Square. Activities include:

  • Outdoor picnic

  • Games and bracelet-making

  • Meeting youth workers and organisations

They will also give out small sexual education kits to young people. This year’s theme is consent and personal boundaries. The event follows safe space principles.

Hämeenlinna Pride Parade on 16 August 2025

The main Pride celebration is in August. On Saturday 16 August, Hämeenlinna will have a Pride parade for the first time in 10 years. Join us from 11 AM for a march, picnic, music, speeches and fun together!

Hämeenlinna is part of the “We Speak Gay” network

The city is a member of the We Speak Gay network. It promotes equality, diversity and LGBTQ+ travel. This supports Hämeenlinna’s city strategy called “Houkutteleva Hämeenlinna”.

Welcome to celebrate equality and diversity in Hämeenlinna!
