Sick leave
If you fall ill or have an accident, you have the right to take time out of work. When you are ill or you have suffered an accident and cannot go to work, call your supervisor at work immediately in the morning. Your employer has the right to ask you to provide a medical certificate about your illness or accident. Your supervisor will tell you if you need a medical certificate for your illness or accident immediately or only on the fourth day of your sick leave.
Your employer is responsible for paying you wages during your sick leave. If your employment has continued for more than a month before your illness or accident, you will receive full wages for at least the day you fell ill and for nine days after the day you fell ill. If you are unable to return to work after these ten days, you can apply to Kela for sickness allowance if you are covered by the Finnish social security.
Your collective agreement may also list other conditions and you will be paid wages for a longer period of time.
