Enrolment in the first and the seventh class

The first year of basic education begins in the autumn of the year the child turns 7 and the seventh year begins in the autumn of the year the child turns 13.

Register your child for first grade

Registration for a child starting first grade in August 2026 is open from 18 December 2025 to 11 January 2026. Registration and instructions are in the Wilma system.

Note: If you moved to Hämeenlinna after 1 December 2025 or if your child’s details are not found in Hämeenlinna’s Wilma system, please fill in an online school place application.

When you register your child in Wilma, check these details:

  • the pupil’s name and contact details
  • details of guardians and close family members
  • information needed for planning teaching (for example, religious education)

If your child needs a place in morning or afternoon clubs, apply between 18 December 2025 and 28 February 2026. Morning and afternoon clubs are voluntary and have a fee.
They are organised at the school from 7:00 to 17:00, before and after the school day. Apply for a place in Wilma.

Register your child for seventh grade

Registration for a pupil starting seventh grade in August 2026 is open from 18 December 2025 to 11 January 2026. Registration and instructions are in the Wilma system.

Note: If you move to Hämeenlinna, or move within Hämeenlinna before the school year starts (1 August 2026), please fill in an online school place application for seventh grade.

When you register your child in Wilma, check these details:

  • the pupil’s name and contact details
  • other information related to the pupil’s schooling

Important dates for basic education, school year 2026–2027

  • Register your child for first or seventh grade: 18 December 2025 – 11 January 2026

  • School place decisions are published from 13 March 2026 in Wilma or by letter

  • Apply for school transport between 16 February and 24 April 2026, if needed

  • Apply for morning or afternoon activities: 18 December 2025 – 28 February 2026

  • The basic education school year is from 12 August 2026 to 5 June 2027
