Enrol your child in the first class
Enrolment takes place through the Wilma system.
Enrolment instructions will be published on 17 December 2024 on Wilma’s homepage and the enrollment will remain open until 12 January 2025.
In addition, guardians of children participating in Hämeenlinna’s pre-school education will receive the information in Päikky-app and via the suomi.fi message service.
When erolling, the guardian logged into Wilma must verify the following information:
- the student’s name and contact information
- information of guardians and close relatives
- information necessary for planning of education (e.g. religion classes)
If you have moved to Hämeenlinna in December 2024, or are moving after 1 January 2025, or if for any other reason your child’s information is not available in Hämeenlinna’s Wilma system during registration, please fill out the electronic student place application.
A school place will be assigned based on the student enrollment criteria set by the Board of Education and Welfare (criteria for determining a student place).
Decisions regarding final school placements will be published in Wilma or sent by post from 14 March 2025.

Starting school a year earlier or later than usually
The first year of basic education begins in the autumn of the year the child turns 7. If guardians wish to move the start of school to a year earlier, they must:
- obtain a psychologist’s opinion on the matter and attach it to the application
- fill out the electronic student place application and
- fill out the application (printable pdf, only in Finnish) for starting school a year earlier.
Please ask for help in filling out the application at the International Service Centre (International Service Centre in Kastelli – MyIntegration).
If guardians wish to delay their child’s school start by a year, the decision will be made in a multidisciplinary meeting at the child’s pre-school. They must:
- fill out the application (printable pdf, only in Finnish) for starting school a year later.
