Morning and after-school clubs support a child’s well-being, social skills and safe leisure time. Clubs include outdoor play, games, crafts, rest and doing homework. You must apply for a place in advance and there is a fee. The fee includes supervision, an afternoon snack, materials and insurance.

In Hämeenlinna morning and after-school clubs are available for students in grades 1-2 and for students with special support needs in grades 3-9. Clubs are held on school days from 7 AM to 5 PM in the school facilities.

NOTE For the current school year 2025–2026, available places in morning and afternoon clubs can be inquired about from the morning and afternoon club coordinator (laura.waulu@hameenlinna.fi / +358 50 509 1126).

Applying to morning and after-school clubs

The applying period for morning and after-school clubs for the school year 2026-2027 is 18.12.2025-28.2.2026.

The application also applies to students who have participated in the club during the school year 2025-2026 and want to continue next school year. The new school year starts on August 12, 2026.

You must apply for the clubs primarily through this electronic application. The form requires authentication. International Service Centre or International Family Guidance Service can help you fill out the application.

If a guardian cannot fill out the electronic application, they can fill out a paper application. The application should be returned to Hämeenlinna city, Education Services / APIP, Wetterhoffinkatu 2, 13100 Hämeenlinna or by email to laura.waulu@hameenlinna.fi

Application for morning and after-school clubs for the school year 2026-2027 (printable)

A club will be formed if at least seven children register during the application period. A place in morning and after-school club will be given to all who apply during the applying period from the club they applied to, if the club is formed.

You can also apply for the clubs after the applying period or during the school year, but places cannot be guaranteed for all applicants. Applications received after the applying period will be processed in the order they are received, and a place can be granted if there is space in the club.

Morning and afternoon activities are optional for families and subject to a fee. A granted place for the school year 2026-2027 can be cancelled free of charge by 31 July 2026 if it is no longer needed.

Application for fee exemption

Guardians can apply for a fee exemption for morning and after-school clubs if the family receives income support or if the family’s financial or social situation requires it. The fee exemption can be granted from the beginning of the month when the application is received.

The fee exemption application for the school year 2025-2026

The fee exemption application for the school year 2026-2027 will be published in June 2026.
