
Municipalities take care of things like schools, sports facilities, environmental issues and water supply services. County councils decide how health and social services and rescue services are organized and provided in wellbeing services counties.
Who can vote?
If you have the right to vote, a voting rights notice will be sent to you before the elections. Voting rights notices will be sent by post or electronically via Suomi.fi service. For more information about the service, please see suomi.fi/messages.
You can vote in the county and municipal elections if you are over 18 years old or turn 18 by election day, April 13, 2025. Additionally, one of the following conditions must be met:
- you are a citizen of Finland and have a home municipality in Finland, or
- you are a citizen of an EU country, Iceland or Norway and have a home municipality in Finland, or
- you are a citizen of another country and have had a home municipality in Finland continuously for at least two years.
Who can you vote for?
In the county elections you can vote for a candidate from your wellbeing services county. Your wellbeing services county is the area where your home municipality is located. For example Hämeenlinna is part of the Kanta-Häme wellbeing services county. In the municipal elections you can vote for a candidate from your home municipality.
You can find information about candidates from your wellbeing services county and municipality in newspapers, on TV and on the internet, for example.
Schedules
You can vote in the elections either in advance or on the actual election day.
