Apple project 2021 in the Hämeenlinna region

12.07.2021
in picture a hand with an apple

Apple is widely available in Finland and many households have apple trees in their gardens.

In years where there is a blessed harvest, households do not necessarily consume all apples and therefore it is subject to waste. However, through us, it is possible to start sharing it more with people willing to take apples for consumption.
There are also increased efforts to bring people of different cultural backgrounds in interaction doing some activities together initiated by many institutions and organizations. However, it may not always be enough and sufficient. Therefore, we wish to contribute in this regard as well, by bringing local Finns with other finns, and newcomers, everyone who is interested in waste reduction and enhancing real-life social contacts clearly bearing in mind the Pandemic recommendations as well.
The goal is “sustainable consumption” and “caring communities” in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN.

SKY is a mediator/advocate between the parties. We will make a list of the apple providers and the collectors until August 10.
From August 10, we will contact everyone who signed up to confirm the willingness and to ask if apples are ready to share. In the same way, everyone who wishes can call us to inform us that they have available apples or other fruits/berries and would like to share. From August 20th, we will start collecting and sharing in two ways.

First way

SKY as a mediator, contact the apple contributor and agree on a certain time to collect an apple from their house together with the collector. Meanwhile, introduce both sides with each other, so that they can continue to communicate later on
(if they wish so).

Second way

We set up a location, where contributors and collectors can come to leave or receive apples.

From now on, you can get involved in this goodwill initiative in three ways:

1. Register as an apple contributor using the given link.

2. Register as a receiver.

3. Share the word and let others know about the campaign.
